Mango Dal / Mamidikaya Pappu

INGREDIENTS:
  1. Mango - 1 ( Large)
  2. Toor Dal - 1 cup 
  3. Onion - 1 Small
  4. Green Chilli - 2 
  5. Tamarind - 2 inch piece
  6. Red chilli powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
  7. Salt - 1 tbsp
  8. Seasoning Ingredients (Mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, urad dal)
  9. Curry leaves - 4
  10. Hing - 1/8 tbsp
PROCEDURE:

Take toor dal and wash it 3 times with water. Then take a pressure cooker and add the washed toor dal, 2 cups of water 
(1 cup toor dal = 2 cups water), chopped mango, onions, green chillies, tamarind, red chilli powder and salt. 
Pressure cook all the ingredients until 5 whistles. Afterwards transfer the dal into a bowl and mash it well with a masher or spoon. 
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a small pan and add Mustard seeds to it. When the mustard seeds splutter add cumin seeds, urad dal, curry leaves and hing and fry them till the urad dal turns golden brown.

Now add this tempering to the dal and serve hot with rice and ghee.

Methi and Tomato Dal / Menthi kura Pappu


INGREDIENTS:
  1. Methi (Menthi kura) - 1 bunch (or 1 cup chopped methi)
  2. Tomato - 1 (Medium)
  3. Toor Dal - 1 cup 
  4. Onion - 1 Small
  5. Green Chilli - 2 
  6. Tamarind - 3 inch piece
  7. Red chilli powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
  8. Salt - 1 tbsp
  9. Seasoning Ingredients(Mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, urad dal)
  10. Curry leaves
  11. Hing - pinch
PROCEDURE:

1. Chop all the vegetables and keep them a side. Take toor dal and wash it 3 times with water. Then take a pressure cooker and add the washed toor dal, 2 cups of water, chopped methi leaves, tomato, onions, green chillies, tamarind, red chilli powder and salt. (1 cup toor dal = 2 cups water)

2. Pressure cook all the ingredients until 5 whistles. Remove the cooker lid after all the pressure is out. Then transfer the dal into a bowl and mash it well with a masher or spoon. 

3. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a small pan and add Mustard seeds to it. When the mustard seeds splutter add cumin seeds, urad dal,  hing and curry leaves. Fry them till the urad dal turns golden brown. Now add this tempering to the pappu and mix it. Serve the pappu with hot rice and ghee.

Tomato Dal / Tomato Pappu

INGREDIENTS:
  1. Tomatoes - 2 (small)
  2. Toor dal - 1 cup
  3. Onion - 1 small
  4. Green Chillies - 2
  5. Tamarind - 3 inch layer
  6. Red chilli powder - 1 tbsp
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Seasoning Ingredients (Mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, Urad dal)
  9. Curry leaves - 4
  10. Hing - pinch
PROCEDURE:

Take toor dal and wash it 3 times with water. Then take a pressure cooker and add the washed toor dal, 2 cups of water, chopped tomato, onions, green chillies, tamarind, red chilli powder and salt.

Spinach Dal / Palakura Pappu

INGREDIENTS:
  1. Spinach - 1 LB
  2. Toor Dal - 1 cup
  3. Onion - 1 Small
  4. Green Chilli - 3 
  5. Tamarind - 4 inch piece
  6. Red chilli powder - 1tbsp
  7. Salt - 3/4 tbsp
  8. Seasoning Ingredients(Mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, urad dal)
  9. Curry leaves
  10. Hing - pinch
PROCEDURE:


Take toor dal and wash it 3 times with water. Then take a pressure cooker and add the washed toor dal, 2 1/2 cups of water, chopped spinach, onions, green chillies, tamarind, red chilli powder and salt. 

Pressure cook all the ingredients until 5 whistles. Afterwards transfer the dal into a bowl and mash it well with a masher or spoon. 

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a small pan and add mustard seeds to it. When the mustard seeds splutter add cumin seeds, urad dal, curry leaves and hing and fry them till the urad dal turns golden brown. Now add this tempering to the dal and serve the palakura pappu with hot rice and ghee.
